How do I know this fits my machine?

My gasket is 8.3 mm or 9 mm — how do I tell?
Take the old one out and measure its thickness, or check your machine's parts diagram. They look nearly identical in a photo and they are not interchangeable: too thin and the portafilter over-rotates and leaks, too thick and it won't lock in far enough. If you can measure it with calipers, do. If not, send us the machine model and we'll look up which thickness it takes.
Can I fit it myself?
It depends entirely on the part. A steam tip, a gasket, a diffuser or a crank are owner-serviceable with basic tools and care. A safety valve, a thermostat or a pressure fitting is not: those sit in a pressurised boiler or on mains electricity, and the installation line on this page says so where it applies. Why does the certification line sometimes say none stated?
